Interview: Hagop “Jacob” Dayermenjian

1.What made you decide to come to Rutgers?

I am majoring in Aerospace Engineering, and Rutgers has a very good program for my major. In addition, I wanted to continue being part of a Marching Band, and Rutgers has the Marching Scarlet Knights. Those two reasons are the most influential aspects of why I chose Rutgers.

2. What has your Rutgers experience been like so far (extra curriculars, favorite classes, etc.)?

My Rutgers experience has been very unique and new to me. One thing that has made my freshman year unforgettable was being part of the Marching Scarlet Knights. It has been such an incredible joy with so many opportunities that some can’t even fathom.

3. What made you choose your instrument?

In freshman year of high school, there was a very popular video circulating on the Internet called “When Mom’s Not Home.” I watched it, and it got me thinking, “What instrument would I play?” At the time I was planning on joining band class, and this video really persuaded me to play trombone, which I have never regretted.

4. What made you decide to join Mu Beta Psi?

To be honest, if you asked me in the beginning of the semester, I would have said I will NEVER join a fraternity. But as I talked with the Membership Coordinator and some other members, I realized that not all fraternities are crazy social party groups, and I opened up to the idea of joining- especially because Mu Beta Psi is a Music Service Fraternity, and I figured I would fit in well. I joined finally, and am happy with my decision now.

5. What has being in Mu Beta Psi been like for you?

Being in Mu Beta Psi has definitely been a new and fun experience to say the least. Immediately we got exposed to all the new members and started making new connections. My class’s Education Process was definitely a unique one given the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was still enjoyable and truly fun.

6. Do you have a favorite memory in Mu Beta Psi?

My favorite memory was the Music Project.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I like to take pictures. I love photography, but just don’t get the chance that often.

8. Do you have any advice for anyone interested in joining Mu Beta Psi or looking to get more involved?

My advice to you is if you have the slightest interest, don’t hesitate to reach out to somebody. Come to the rush events. Make an effort and it will pay off. Good luck!
